Xiao Xuezhi (June 1965-), is the Chief Scientist and Research Fellow II (2nd highest level Professor) of Foreign Environmental Cooperation Center, Ministry of Ecology and Environment (FECO/MEE) of China. He also severs as the Vice Director of the Expert Committee of National Coordination Group of Stockholm Convention and Minamata Convention and member of the Expert Committee of inter-ministerial coordination group of China on emerging contaminants. He is a newly elected member of the Persistent Organic Pollutants Review Committee (POPRC) under Stockholm Convention. He brings over 30 years of professional experience in the multilateral environmental conventions and cooperative governance at national, regional and global levels. During his 13 years as the Deputy Director General (DDG) of FECO/MEE, he led twice the China delegation to the BRS COPs and played vital roles at the negotiations and consultations under the Montreal Protocol, UNFCCC, and the recent sessions of Intergovernmental Negotiation Committee on plastic pollution. He has solid background of chemistry, rich knowledge and experience of toxic and hazardous chemicals elimination and management, negotiations and convention practices. |
