Special Advisor to the Chair of the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) and Director of Beijing Office

Zhengwei Zhang is Special Advisor to the Chair of the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) and Director of Beijing Office. In such role, he focuses on the implementation of the ISSB’s strategies regarding stakeholders in emerging and developing economies as well as small and medium-sized companies, and the promotion of the IFRS Foundation and ISSB to key stakeholders in Asia. He also leads the operation of the Foundation’s Beijing Office to support the creation of a global footprint for the Foundation and to promote the work of the ISSB in conjunction with other offices. Prior to joining ISSB in November 2022, Zhengwei was the Director-General of the Inspection Bureau of the Ministry of Finance of China in Jiangxi Province, in charge of the inspection and evaluation of local fiscal expenditures and debt sustainability. Zhengwei has more than two decades’ experience in international economic and financial cooperation. He was closely involved in the BRICS Finance Ministers’ Process, ASEAN + China, Japan, Korea (ASEAN+3) Financial Cooperation, APEC Finance Ministers’ Process, and China’s bilateral financial dialogues with the UK, Germany, Italy and the EU, among others. He also has sat on the Boards of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the New Development Bank (NDB), the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), and the Credit Guarantee and Investment Facility (CGIF). Zhengwei holds a Ph.D. in Economics and an M.S. in Accounting, both from the Research Institute for Fiscal Science, China. He is a senior member of the Chinese Institute of Certified Public Accountants (CICPA) and a member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) of the UK.
