Japan Chemical Industry Association (JCIA)

SHINDO Hideo is Director General, Japan Chemical Industry Association (JCIA) since May 2021. JCIA represents the voice of about 180 large, medium and small chemical companies and about 80 chemical industry associations in Japan, and tackles with economic, technology and safety issues surrounding the chemical industry. 
Before joining JCIA, he was Executive Director of the Vinyl Environmental Council (VEC), Japan from December 2018 to May 2021.
He has long been involved in promoting academia-industry collaboration in science, technology and innovation fields in Japan. He worked for Cabinet Office as Deputy Director General for Science, Technology and Innovation (2016-2018), Tohoku University as Executive Vice President for Academia Industry Collaboration (2013-2016). Before then, he worked for Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and METI-related independent administrative agencies (1986-2013).
He has the Master in Public Policy at J.F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University in 1994, and the Bachelor of Liberal Arts at the University of Tokyo in 1986.
