Director General, European Chemical Industry Council (Cefic)

Marco Mensink is Director General of Cefic, the European Chemical Industry Council, that represents the voice of large, medium and small chemical companies across Europe. In this role, he shapes the strategy and direction of the European chemical industry, uniting 31 national federations and 650 members and afiliates from all over Europe.
He also has the role of Council Secretary of the International Council of Chemical Industries (ICCA), uniting 95% of global chemical production. For this he actively engages with the Chinese, American and US counterparts of Cefic and the CEO’s of the global companies. ICCA represents the industry in global UN discussions, UNFCCC, SAICM, ICCM, etc.
A Dutch national, he is an established authority and a frequent commentator on all aspects of EU policies afecting European businesses. Since his arrival in Brussels in 2006, Marco Mensink has worked on Energy Policy (EU ETS, Renewables) and is a known expert in this field.
Before joining Cefic, he was director general of the Confederation of European Paper Industries (CEPI). Starting his career at Ernst & Young Management Consulting, he worked for six years in environmental management and due diligence projects. A Dutch national, he holds a MA in Forestry and Business Management from the Agricultural University of Wageningen in the Netherlands.
