Bingqiang Zhao has been engaged in green fertilizer development and sustainable fertilization system research. He is currently the Vice Chairman of the Chinese Society of Plant Nutrition and Fertilizer, chair professor of New Fertilizers and Fertilization Research Team at the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS), Chief Scientist of New Fertilizer Research Team of Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs in China. He has invented the new technology in employing bioactive organic synergists as nutrient-use enhancers being incorporated into common urea, DAP, compound fertilizer and water-soluble fertilizer, etc. to develop green efficiency fertilizers (known as value-added fertilizers) which are integrally manufactured by large-scale urea/DAP/compound fertilizer lines. He is the holder of more than 50 patents related to new fertilizer synergists and value-added fertilizers domestic and overseas, and 5 of them won China Patent Excellence Award. A series of value-added urea/DAP/compound fertilizer products invented by Bingqiang Zhao have been industrialized in more than 40 fertilizer companies in China. By the end of 2021, the yearly production output of value-added fertilizers has reached 15 Mt in China. Bingqiang Zhao has published more than 200 peer-reviewed papers, 24 books as chief editor, and won more than 20 awards for scientific achievements.
